Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and the medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government's Emergency Health Services (EHS) division and the Department of Health and Wellness. As well, EMC operates TeleHealth 811 Mental Health and Addictions for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health.

What you'll do
Responsibilities
Nature and Scope:
Reporting to the Manager of Applications and Data Management, the Business Solution Specialist provides technical support through research, programming and process control for the optimum system administration of EMC/Medavie Health Services (MHS) environment. The incumbent utilizes their industry knowledge to interpret business needs and translate them into applications that meet MHS's operational requirements.
The Business Solution Specialist will participate in the implementation and maintenance of software applications, automation of reporting systems, analyses of operational reporting requirements, and report development. The incumbent will also administer COGNOS Analytics in partnership with our vendor and provide support to the SharePoint Administrator and Site owners.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts research, collects information, tests and provides recommendations on reporting and Business Solution systems.
- Analyse, test, recommend and install systems based on business requirements in collaboration with other IT professionals and managers.
- Develop and install SharePoint forms, web parts and workflow automation through both Visual Studio and SharePoint Designer.
- Provide support and guidance to SharePoint site owners troubleshooting errors, managing and revising site layout, assisting with SharePoint upgrades and migrations.
- Mentors, trains and develops departmental staff to better utilize databases and reporting structures.
- Provide support to operational critical systems including: system troubleshooting, user issues, software configuration and minor upgrades
- Develops standardized reports in COGNOS Analytics and SQL Server Reporting Services for use throughout the entire organization.
- Performs trending and analysis to ensure the ongoing quality of data and reports.
- Liaises and works collaboratively with managers in developing reports to measure departmental and corporate outcomes.
- Provides in-house maintenance for the applications and/or liaises with the software vendor to ensure that upgrades and enhancements are thoroughly tested and implemented.
- Keeps abreast of current advances in the industry through periodic literature reviews, seminars and communication with other professionals in the field.
What you'll need
Qualifications
- University degree and/or post-secondary courses or certification in Information Technology, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Development experience in .Net development (C #, TSQL, SharePoint, VB an asset)
- Development experience in SQL BIDS and Visual Studio.
- Administration and report development experience in COGNOS Analytics 11, including Framework Manager.
- Development and support experience in SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint Designer 2010.
- Project management training an asset.
- Minimum five years' IT industry experience (concentration in development and business Solution)
- Ability to anticipate issues, think proactively and use critical thinking skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of technical database management and reporting management functions.
- Working knowledge of databases and database administration including Microsoft SQL server.
- Knowledge and understanding of the key records management and information management standards and legislation, and information standards.
- Strong inter-personal, and oral and written communication skills; is capable of explaining simple procedures in writing or verbally
