Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and the medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government's Emergency Health Services (EHS) division and the Department of Health and Wellness. As well, EMC operates TeleHealth 811 Mental Health and Addictions for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health. 

EMC delivers a high-quality pre-hospital care program and Telehealth service to Nova Scotians each and every day. We achieve this through the more than 1,400 employees who work with us including highly-trained paramedics, nurses, medical communication officers and support staff.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Applications and Data Management, the Business Solution Specialist provides technical development and support through research, programming and process control for the optimum system administration of EMC/Medavie Health Services (MHS) environment. The incumbent utilizes their industry knowledge to interpret business needs and translate them into applications that meet MHS's operational requirements.

The Business Solution Specialist will participate in the development of software applications and automation of reporting systems. The incumbent will also oversee the operational reporting requirements and development by the departmental staff responsible for that function.

  • Analyses, designs, develops, tests and installs applications to meet business requirements.
  • Conducts research, collects information, tests and provides recommendations on reporting and Business Solution systems.
  • Designs and develops systems based on user requirements for new projects in collaboration with other IT professionals and managers.
  • Mentors, trains and develops departmental staff to better utilize online processing databases and reporting structures.
  • Analyses data and reports on progress and identifies risks.
  • Provide Tier I support to operational critical systems including: system troubleshooting, user issues, software configuration and minor upgrades
  • Develops standardized reports throughout the entire organization.
  • Performs trending and analysis to ensure the ongoing quality of data and reports.
  • Provides in-house maintenance for the applications and/or liaises with the software vendor to ensure that upgrades and enhancements are applied and tested.
  • Keeps abreast of current advances in the industry through periodic literature reviews, seminars and communication with other professionals in the field.
  • Liaises and works collaboratively with managers in developing reports to measure departmental and corporate outcomes.

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • University degree and/or post-secondary courses or certification in Information Technology, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Training and development experience in SQL BIDS and Visual Studio.
  • Training and development experience in .Net development (C #, TSQL, SharePoint, VB an asset)
  • Cognos Analytics experience and asset.
  • Project management training an asset.
  • Minimum five years' IT industry experience (concentration in development and business Solution)
  • Previous SharePoint experience an asset.
  • Ability to anticipate issues, think proactively and use critical thinking skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of technical database management and reporting management functions.
  • Working knowledge of databases and database administration including Microsoft SQL server.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the key records management and information management standards and legislation, and information standards.
  • Strong inter-personal, and oral and written communication skills; is capable of explaining simple procedures in writing or verbally.
