Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and the medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government's Emergency Health Services (EHS) division and the Department of Health and Wellness. As well, EMC operates TeleHealth 811 Mental Health and Addictions for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health.

EMC delivers a high-quality pre-hospital care program and Telehealth service to Nova Scotians each and every day. We achieve this through the more than 1,400 employees who work with us including highly-trained paramedics, nurses, medical communication officers and support staff.

Nature and Scope:

If you are looking for an opportunity in a challenging, fast-paced and team-oriented work environment with a leading local organization, we are currently seeking a Benefits Administrator. Reporting to the Manager of Payroll and Benefits, the Benefits Administrator is responsible for all the administration aspects of the company benefits programs, which includes being the primary contact for all benefits inquiries from employees, management and outside benefits carriers.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

· Processing benefits for new hires, terminations, and job changes.

· Creating reports for verification and auditing.

· Reconciling the monthly benefits invoices and remitting payments.

· Counseling employees and responding to inquiries regarding benefits coverage.

· Liaising with the HR department to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory aspects of benefits administration and company policies and procedures.

· Staying up to date on internal and external changes that affect our benefits programs. For example, legislation changes, Collective Agreement requirements and benefits renewals from the provider.

What you'll need

Qualifications

· Minimum college level diploma in accounting, finance, and/or payroll

· CPA Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification or a CEBS certification (Certified Employee Benefits Specialist) preferred

· Minimum five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

· Thorough understanding of benefits data, calculations, benefit terminology and plan document requirements.

· Intermediate to advanced computer knowledge in excel, word and HRIS Systems. For example, ADP and Workday.

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as union agreements, company procedure policies and Labour Standard Guide

· Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to employees of the company

· Demonstrated confidentiality, tact and diplomacy

· High levels of customer service

· Strong organizational/problem solving and time management skills

· Attention to detail, ability to multitask, and to use sound judgment required.
