Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and the medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government's Emergency Health Services (EHS) division and the Department of Health and Wellness. As well, EMC operates TeleHealth 811 medical communications for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health.

EMC delivers a high-quality pre-hospital care program and Telehealth service to Nova Scotians each and every day. We achieve this through the more than 1,400 employees who work with us including highly-trained paramedics, nurses, medical communication officers and support staff.

Reporting to the Supervisor, System Support & Logistics, the System Support Technician (SST) is a key part of the EMC team that provides a well maintained, safe, effective delivery of medical supplies throughout the province, designed to give optimal customer service and patient care. In addition, the L-SST will provide light maintenance repair to Provincial Paramedic Base Station's.

Each SST is accountable to exercise "highest standards of cleanliness available" in the industry. The Technicians are expected to conduct themselves in a safe and prudent manner. The SST's will be largely responsible to ensure all vehicles are thoroughly cleaned (inside and outside) and medical supply stations are safe, effective, maintained, cleaned and stocked in accordance with policies and procedures as stated by EMC and EHS.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

  • Conducts reasonable on-going cleanliness of the fleet center during scheduled shift and at least once a week, performs a deep clean.
  • Stocks medical supply stations in accordance with EMC policies and procedures.
  • Completes required Ambulance Base Station facilities repairs which includes but not limited to; Base Station cleaning, vehicle detailing and vehicle decontamination, light repairs and general maintenance as required to EHS vehicles.
  • Completes light mechanical repairs as directed.
  • Covers for on-call phone calls for SST, when required.
  • Maintains and ensures proper documentation including quantity, part numbers and description of repair.
  • Operates all system vehicles in accordance with all policies of EMC and EHS.
  • Complies with all existing EMC System Support Safe Work Practices (SWP) as well as all other Company policies and procedures.
  • Performs other such similar, comparable or related duties as may be required or assigned.

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • Experience in Logistics and or materials management would be an asset.
  • Ability to work shift work (4 on/ 4 off)
    • Two 12 hour day shifts (7:00am-7:00pm) followed by two night shifts (7:00pm-7am) followed by four days off
  • Minimum Grade 12.
  • Acquire and maintain Medical First Responder certification.
  • Ability to complete and retain a class 4 Nova Scotia Drivers' License in good standing.
  • WHMIS.
  • First Aid is considered an asset.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Displays good decision-making skills and takes initiative.
  • Practices good hygiene and demonstrates socially accepted skills and graces when interacting with vendors, colleagues, paramedics and any member of the general public
