NSCAD University invites applications for a tenure track position in painting at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a candidate with an active studio practice who will help shape the future of painting, artistic research, and pedagogy within the vibrant environment of Atlantic Canada's only dedicated art university.
We seek a candidate who will help shape the future of artistic research and pedagogy at NSCAD. The chosen candidate will be an artist with an active painting practice, who is engaged in key conversations in contemporary art, and who demonstrates aptitude for involving students in those conversations. The candidate will have the capacity to teach objective, non-objective, and expanded approaches to painting; they will combine strong technical skills with intellectual breadth and dynamic pedagogy. We seek an engaged and committed colleague who will thrive in our teaching and learning community.

What you'll do
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a national profile as an artist and researcher relevant to the Fine Art Division;
- Work with all levels of undergraduates and MFA students;
- Have principal teaching duties in Fine Art/Painting, with possible duties in other program areas, depending on expertise;
- Support the full expression of NSCAD students' identities through diverse, inclusive, and equitable pedagogies;
- Provide committee service to the program and university-wide governance systems;
- Contribute to building a stimulating university culture and an excellent student experience.
What you'll need
Qualifications
Applicants must have:
- An MFA or equivalent in a relevant field (exceptions may be considered based upon outstanding career achievement);
- An active studio practice and exhibition record (or equivalent);
- Demonstrated capacity to teach at the post-secondary level and aptitude for dynamic curriculum development and delivery;
- Familiarity with a diverse range of current issues in contemporary art and post-secondary education;
- A proven record of promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment for students, staff, and faculty.
Applicants are welcome to highlight aspects of their artistic practice that connect to various fields and/or knowledge systems. They may also highlight experience supervising graduate students.
