POSITION: Arena Operator (CUPE Local 4491)

ASSIGNMENT: Rotating shift schedule inclusive of weekends

DEPARTMENT: Facilities Management

SALARY: $22.56

What you'll do

Responsibilities

The Arena Operator works under the supervision of the Manager, Maintenance & Operations and the direction of the Lead Arena Operator. The Arena Operator operates and maintains the refrigeration plant, brine system and arena complex and cleans the arena complex and installs, maintains, and resurfaces the ice.

Qualifications

Duties as the Arena Operator include, but are not limited to:

  • Operating the refrigeration plant and ice making equipment including the installation of ice and markings, cleaning the building, and maintaining the ice surface.
  • Establishing and performing preventative maintenance routines and performing trouble-shooting and repairs to the arena building, equipment, ice making equipment, and Zamboni.
  • Working closely with any outside agency that is required to perform work on the above noted systems and using any such collaborations to enhance knowledge and troubleshooting expertise.
  • Assisting other maintenance staff in preventative maintenance, trouble-shooting, and maintenance of the arena and ice making equipment.
  • Establishing a good working knowledge of arena, ice making system, Zamboni, and refrigeration plant.
  • Attending training sessions to keep up with technological changes in ice making and maintenance, and operation and maintenance of the refrigeration plant.
