What you'll do

Responsibilities

Acadia seeks an Access Control Locksmith in the Safety & Security Department to provide competent and professional access control and locksmithing to the Acadia University community. As Acadia's Locksmith, you will be responsible to:

  • install, create, program, and maintain electronic locks.
  • cut and record new keys.
  • keep organized filing cabinets containing over 6500 different keys.
  • physically retain an adequate supply of keys for University facilities, cutting new or replacement keys as required.
  • maintain keyed locks and cylinders and conduct maintenance on all locking devices on campus.
  • maintain supply of key blanks, lock, and lock pins. Order replacements as required, keeping adequate inventory to meet needs.
  • re-pin lock cylinders as required.
  • prepare and maintain key presses for keyed residences.
  • program entry cards for electronic locks for residences and academic buildings.
  • prepare reports and statistics as required.
  • prepare photo ID cards as needed.
  • collect money from parking meters and perform meter maintenance.
  • assist in other areas of the Safety & Security Department during peak times such as main security desk operations.

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • We are seeking a candidate who has completed a recognized post-secondary program, preferably a graduate of a certified locksmith course.

  • 2+ years of related experience installing, repairing, and servicing mechanical and electrical locking devices.

  • Applicants must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications.

  • Customer-service oriented.

  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.

  • Strong time management skills to work in a face-paced, multi-project environment.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Demonstrated accuracy in record keeping is also required.

  • Applicants must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License.

  • May occasionally be required to respond to call-back requests after regular hours or on weekends/holidays.
