Position: Academic Services Coordinator (9 month contract)

Department: Global Commons Studio for Teaching and Learning

Annual Salary: $40,950 (inclusive of 4% vacation pay)

Under the direction of the Director, Academic Learning Services (ALS), the Academic Services Coordinator serves as a key support and coordinator for the projects and programming of Academic Learning Services, including the Writing Centre and Academic Communications and Special Projects. The position supports academic programming (embedded tutoring) and workshops and events (in-class sessions and Summer Writing Workshop); Special Project coordination (faculty conference and symposia planning support and coordination); and digital media projects (Writing Help Online). The Academic Services Coordinator works with faculty and students (SMUSA) and internal and external partners in the development and delivery of ALS programming.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Duties as the Academic Services Coordinator include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating and delivering of Writing Help Online programming, including meeting with faculty, updating and supplementing tool content, problem-solving tool issues, coordinating of assessments, commenting on submissions, tutoring participating students and delivering final results to faculty.
  • Coordinating and supporting of special programs, including conferences, symposia, colloquia workshop, and other such programming, including planning, developing, executing, and resolving programs and using online registration tools.
  • Coordinating and delivering of embedded tutoring programs (ENGE 1206; BIOL 1201), including planning, scheduling, tutor training, and delivering of content to students.
  • Coordinating and supporting of academic programming and events, including the Summer Writing Workshop and external out-reach; planning and coordinating of advertising of events, booking facilities and catering, using online registration tools, delivering workshop content; resolving programming.
  • Coordinating and facilitating of internal and external partners regarding ALS programming.
  • Tutoring students, as required.

What you'll need

Qualifications

To be the successful Academic Services Coordinator you will possess an undergraduate degree, two (2) to three (3) years writing tutoring experience, demonstrated understanding of programming and event coordination and delivery, preferably in an Higher Education setting, demonstrated comprehension of Higher Education Learning Management System or similar. You demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively and to participate in consultative decision making; have proven skills in planning, project management, and administration, and excellent oral and written communication silks; strong interpersonal skills. You demonstrate the agility to move from one project to another on short notice and the ability to work with many people at different levels, concurrently. Cross-cultural working experience; excellent knowledge of HE LMSs, digital education tools, MS Office, Internet, and e-mail applications; strong presentation and facilitation skills will round out your success in this positon.
