What you'll do

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head, Program Evaluation and Quality Assurance, the Academic Quality Assurance Specialist will play an integral role in executing the Academic Quality Assurance Framework and overall mission of the College.

This position requires strong analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills for the application of quality assurance processes and determination of compliance to quality standards. The Academic Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for the initiation and progression of quality assurance projects and requires the ability to make sound decisions for the achievement of project goals.

This role consults and collaborates with other leaders and staff members and leads change required for the integration and conformance to quality standards. The Specialist manages annual quality audit activities and strategies; analyses and interprets data sets and findings; and presents and confers with the Head regarding recommendations for improvement. To align with NBCC's quality programming goals, strong leadership skills and a commitment to quality improvement are required.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage annual quality assurance audit cycle, related activities and task assignments.
  • Manage strategies for the collection of quality audit data.
  • Make decisions independently on the appropriate and/or alternate course of action required to achieve goals and enable projects to move forward.
  • Lead changes required for the integration of and conformance to the Quality Assurance Framework using clear communication, elicitation of feedback, and actioning of barriers.
  • Problem-solving ability to find areas of weakness in processes and propose solutions.
  • Analysis and interpretation of data findings with the ability to track, manipulate, identify trends and understand the relevance.
  • Responsible for leading meetings related to the Academic Quality Assurance Committee, quality assurance projects or various working groups as required.
  • Initiate and evaluate progression of quality projects, ensuring coordination of related activities and deadlines are met to achieve project goals.
  • Develop academic quality assurance processes, standards, and related documents with accuracy and conformance to College policies.
  • Critically review department outputs, continuously identifying and evaluating business opportunities to improve systems and processes to reduce costs, mitigate risks and increase efficiencies.
  • Consult and advise various departments and committees for college-wide initiatives/projects on quality processes.
  • Responsible for evaluating the progress of quality assurance initiatives to ensure that all duties requiring action or attention are completed within prescribed deadlines and following established schedules.

What you'll need

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Diploma or degree in a related field with related years of experience.

  • Training in quality assurance process development.

Technical Skills:

  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the use of Excel for data organization and manipulation.
  • Demonstrated understanding of quality assurance, auditing, and continuous improvement processes and experience with data gathering and analysis.
  • Strong ability to develop data collection tools, and manipulate and interpret large amounts of data.

Professional Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and collaboration skills are required to communicate and work effectively with staff and academic leaders.

  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational and multi-tasking skills are required.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills are required.

  • Strong ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.

  • Strong ability to exercise sound judgment and display a high level of professional integrity.

  • Strong commitment to quality and a process-oriented workstyle.

Assets:

  • Prior experience working in a Post-secondary Education environment.

  • Preference will be given to candidates who have a minimum of two years of recent and related experience.

Minimal travel may be required.

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered as equivalent. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be raised.
