The Department of Finance, Information Systems, and Management Science at the Sobey School of Business of Saint Mary's University invites applications for an 8-month limited-term position (Sept. 2022 to Apr. 2023) in Finance at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will engage in maintaining an inclusive, and collegial work environment across teaching and service activities. Responsibilities include:

  • teaching load is 5 or 6 courses over the 8 months, depending upon rank;
  • potential to contribute to curriculum renewal of undergraduate courses;
  • potential to foster and add value to one or several of the existing graduate programs supported by the Department (Master of Finance, MBA or MBA-CPA);
  • engagement in the life of the Department, Faculty, and University through service activities;
  • commitment to upholding the values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in all aspects of teaching, research, and service. This includes the ability to foster creative and collaborative intellectual inquiry by bringing diverse knowledge, experiences, and perspectives to learning activities and research projects

What you'll need

Qualifications

Candidates must have a master's degree. Candidates with a Ph.D. (or ABD) in Finance will be given preference.

The successful candidate must demonstrate:

  • ability and willingness to teach upper-level finance courses in undergraduate and graduate programs at the Sobey School of Business; (Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience in investments or portfolio management.)
  • strong communication skills and ability to build education connections with other areas (disciplines, programs, departments) of the Sobey School of Business and Saint Mary's University.

Having a strong research profile agenda in Finance is an asset.

The Sobey School of Business at Saint Mary's University offers a balanced research/teaching environment for faculty. It has one of the largest business programs in the Atlantic Provinces with over 2,600 students and offers AACSB-accredited degrees at the undergraduate, master's, and Ph.D. levels. The Sobey School is located in a modern facility, providing classrooms with state-of-the-art technology. The Department of Finance, Information Systems, and Management Science consists of 26 full-time faculty members, 15 in the Finance area.
