What you will be doing…

The Director, Workforce Development provides vision and leadership for NSCC's Workforce Development Unit, which includes continuing education, customized, and contract training. The Director will plan and co-ordinate the delivery of education and training initiatives with a view to addressing the training and workforce needs of client organizations and the Province of Nova Scotia.

The Director Workforce Development reports directly to the Associate Vice-President of Research, Innovation, and Workforce Development and is accountable for strategizing, shaping, and nurturing the relationship between the NSCC and its many industry and community partners in the promotion, contracting and delivery of Workforce Development programming (continuing education, customized, and contract training). Collaborating with others in facilitating and stewarding these relationships, the Director holds the strategic view of, and responsibility for, the framework to support these relationships to further the mission and vision of the NSCC. The incumbent will be a leader of the College within partner communities and sectors, liaising regularly between these partners, government agencies, and the NSCC. The Director will also be a leader across the College, stimulating engagement across business areas, schools and campuses.

This position plays a supportive role to the entire Research, Innovation, and Workforce Development portfolio by participating in campus planning activities and serving to anchor NSCC's Workforce Development strategy as responsive to local, regional, and sector needs and opportunities.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is an Undergraduate degree in Business, Law, Arts, or other discipline cognizant of economic and social development activities. An MBA, MPA, MEd, or MA in Community Development would be considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of seven (7) years of recent and related occupational experience in business development and an emphasis on community economic and social development.
  • You possess recent experience in a leadership role ideally in a large, complex organization.
  • You have broad general knowledge of community, government, business & industry engagement.
  • Experience partnering with communities, business, government, funding agencies and other post-secondary institutions.
  • You possess demonstrated knowledge of human resources management principles with the ability to create an engaging and inclusive and effective working environment for employees through hiring, orientation, development, and mentorship.
  • You have a proven track record of leadership by effectively managing and inspiring staff.
  • Experience managing physical and financial resources to ensure effective service delivery.
  • High level of proficiency in digital environments including Microsoft Office, Outlook, etc.
  • Proven ability to quickly establish effective and credible relationships, both internally and externally, is also essential in this role.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated creativity in idea generation and solution implementation.
