This is a designated competition open only to members of the Mi'kmaq and Indigenous community.
The salary scale for Professional Support 3 is based on twelve steps that range from $65,538.83 to $89,827.70. New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience which is $78,680.87 annually.

What you will be doing…
- You will encourage student development by guiding students in educational and career goal setting, critical thinking related to planning, decision-making and problem solving, and reflection on college experiences leading to skills identification, self-knowledge and social/cultural awareness.
- You will use your knowledge of the institution, academic programs, services, processes and policies to engage and support prospective, transitioning-in, in progress, and transitioning-out students.
- You will provide culturally responsive services and supports for Indigenous students and supporting other Student Services staff in developing awareness and skills in working with students in a culturally inclusive environment.
- You will plan and deliver events, activities, and interactions which support student development, engagement, and leadership.
- You will advise students in areas of Accessibility, Career, Enrolment, Finance, Learning, Student Life, and Wellness.
For example, you will:
- Provide opportunities for students to explore career and employment options;
- Help students make decisions about academic enrolment, options, and policies;
- Assist students in planning how to meet financial commitments of college;
- Help student to set and meet educational and career goals
- Support students in forming and running chartered student organizations
- Use recreational, cultural, and social events and activities to promote a sense of belonging among students.
You will be a member of campus and provincial Student Services and Advising teams, which provide a continuum of integrated services and opportunities to students in-person, online, and in blended environments. You will initiate and build partnerships with Academic Chairs and Faculty in order to provide services tailored to the unique needs and opportunities of students and programs.

Qualifications
Qualifications and Occupational Experience:
- The minimum educational qualification for this position is an undergraduate degree. A degree focused in Student Affairs, Indigenous Studies, Adult Education, Education, or Social Science majors would be considered an asset. In addition, you possess an understanding of the experiences and needs of Indigenous Learners ideally in a post-secondary or adult learning context.
- A combination of lived and work experience may also be considered.
- You have a minimum of three years (full time equivalent) of recent and relevant occupational experience in student services or supporting adults in personal, academic, and/or career development and service delivery in Indigenous or First Nations settings.
- Occupational experience that includes working with Indigenous Learners and/or in a post-secondary or adult learning setting would be considered an asset.
- You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, Video conferencing, collaboration tools and institutional information systems.
- You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience
- You have experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery and evaluation
- You have experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students

- You demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in relation to supporting learning and learners.
- You are dedicated to life-long learning , ideally in the area of student development.

As a condition of employment, Professional Support employees at NSCC must complete a two-year (part-time) adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status; all probationary, full or part-time Professional Support employees of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Professional Support employees whose term appointment is twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.
