What you'll do

Responsibilities

Reporting to School of Trades and Transportation Academic Chair:

  • You will be accountable for the provision of specialized skills in the acquiring, supporting, preventative maintenance, repair and purchasing of equipment for the Trades and Transportation departments at the Campus.
  • You will troubleshoot, repair and install equipment and accessories located in the shops and maintain equipment and shops to a high standard of hygiene and safety following the 5S+S standard.
  • Developing, maintaining and documenting preventative maintenance for equipment will be key in this position.
  • You will assist faculty with the supervision of students working in the shops as required, demonstration of equipment operation/Safe Work Procedures and support the learning environment.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a post-secondary diploma in Electromechanical Technician, Precision Machining, CNC, or other related trade.
  • A journeyperson certificate in a related field such as Industrial Mechanic, would be considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of five years (full-time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in managing Preventative Maintenance Plans/Equipment History Logs, repairing equipment, specifying and installing equipment.
  • You have safety training in WHMIS, NS Occupational Health and Safety regulations, Hazard Identification, LOTO, Standard First Aid, Respiratory Awareness, Confined Space, and Fall Protection would be considered an asset.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, and Excel and software involving equipment maintenance tracking
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology, and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work
  • Experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery and evaluation would be considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students would be considered an asset.
