Responsibilities

What you'll be doing

  • Reporting to the Academic Chair, in collaboration with the School, Health and Human Services, you will provide leadership to the accreditation processes for the MLT program. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Conducting research and providing operational leadership for program quality assurance processes, resources, training and initiatives.
  • Leading accreditation processes for the MLT program.
  • Analyzing course and program metrics to identify professional development needs and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Academic Chair and internal and external stakeholders to develop progress reports and implement recommendations from Equal Canada Accreditation.
  • Evaluating safety protocols, practices, and equipment for the Medical Laboratory program.
  • In consultation with the Academic Chair, facilitate regular faculty meetings, create program evaluations and generate semester calendars and yearly reports.
  • Provide strategic guidance for the Faculty Liaison Committee.
  • Provide leadership in clinical planning with provincial lab managers from NS Health and IWK
  • Supervising MLT Program Assistants and working closely with the Biological Safety Officer to ensure all PHAC licensing requirements are in place.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety procedures (including 5S+S process adherence) and participating in Occupational Health & Safety meetings.
  • Managing equipment maintenance and making recommendations for upgrades or replacements as required.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) diploma from a recognized and accredited educational institution and you are currently licensed (or eligible for licensure) with the Nova Scotia College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (NSMLT) and have a membership in the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS). A university degree would be considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of 5 (five) years (full time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in a broad range of laboratory disciplines. Occupational experience that includes experience in a supervisory capacity; evaluating, monitoring, assessing and advising will be considered an asset.

  • Demonstrated experience in developing programs and quality improvement processes.
  • Experience in coaching, negotiation and influencing others.
  • Experience in facilitating or delivering training programs/sessions.
  • Experience working in post-secondary would be considered an asset.
  • Experience in presentation/facilitation would be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in hiring and managing a team would be considered an important asset.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, and E-mail.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.
