What you'll be doing

The Strait Area Campus is committed to building stronger relationships with Indigenous communities in our catchment area. We have excellent, tech-enabled space leased at the Wagmatcook Learning Centre where students living in the area can connect to on campus and Teams based sessions in the Adult Learning Program (ALP).

Reporting to the Academic Chair, School of Access, Education and Language, you will support the ALP faculty in the daily activities of working with and supporting students to achieve the program outcomes.

Daily activities can include, but are not limited to:

  • Participating in planning and learning sessions as led by the ALP faculty and ALP Counsellor.
  • Working one on one with students (e.g., admissions, intake forms, health and dental benefit enrolment forms).
  • Working with and/or leading small groups.
  • Supporting recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Connecting with the campus team and central recruitment teams in relation to school visits within Indigenous communities.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a relevant college diploma in social sciences or related discipline.

  • You have a minimum of two (2) years of recent and related occupational experience in supporting students (preference for those who have experience in mentoring Indigenous students).

  • Experience and/or certification in adult education would be considered an asset.

  • Fluency in Mi'kmaq language would be considered an asset.

  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, and classroom technology for distributed learning (such as Microsoft Teams and Learning Management Systems such as Brightspace).

  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.

  • Experience supporting workshop/group facilitation would be considered an asset.

  • Experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students would be considered an asset.

  • A NS Driver's License would be considered an asset as travel is required to Wagmatcook.
