Responsibilities

What you'll be doing...

Reporting to the Academic Chair of Civil & Building Technologies, with functional direction from Civil Engineering Technology Program Faculty, you will:

  • Provide materials testing laboratory and surveying support, along with program and administrative assistance for the Civil & Building Technologies Department.
  • Oversee the Materials Testing Laboratory by managing the lab environment, and prepare equipment for surveying and laboratory activities.
  • Assist in classroom with lab demonstrations. Prepare projects and mock-ups as needed. Aid faculty with administrative preparation for lab activities, technology needs, and work collaboratively with students, Faculty and staff in a laboratory setting to support learning.
  • Assist Faculty with the safe operation of tools & equipment, ensuring adherence to safe work practices.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a relevant post-secondary diploma or certification in Civil Engineering Technology or other Construction Technology disciplines at a minimum Technologist level. You are eligible for certification with TechNova.

  • You possess training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations as well as Standard First Aid, CPR and discipline relevant safety training or you have a willingness to obtain during employment.
  • You have a minimum of three years (full time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in Civil Engineering Technology including working with civil materials, geotechnical work, and surveying.
  • You have experience with materials testing in a civil material testing laboratory.
  • Occupational experience that includes materials testing in a civil materials lab would be considered an asset.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Teams and e-mail
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.
  • Experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery and evaluation would be considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students would be considered an asset.
