What you'll do

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Academic Chair, and taking functional direction from program Faculty, as the Program Assistant, you will:

  • Provide thorough cleaning and maintenance of the shop and maintain a safe work environment in all areas where students and staff are working.
  • Maintain inventory control in the shop as well as the timely ordering of materials to suit curriculum requirements.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance procedures are carried out on equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with shop safety and quality control requirements by following safety policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Assist Faculty in the preparation, dismantling and cleanup of shop demonstrations.
  • Maintain professional and courteous relationships with all staff and provide effective customer services for all users of the shop.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a Red Seal certification in Carpentry.
  • In addition, you possess training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations as well as Standard First Aid and discipline relevant safety training or you have a willingness to obtain within the first year.
  • You have a minimum of five years (full time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in the carpentry industry.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite and e-mail. Experience with Brightspace (or any other Learning Management System) would be considered an asset.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.
  • Experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery and evaluation would be considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students would be considered an asset.
