What you'll be doing...

Reporting to a Research Scientist, you will:

  • Provide technical assistance for projects led by Research Scientists. This involves assisting with day-to-day operations of a project to meet the research objectives and commitments with collaborating partners and funding agencies.
  • Work on one or more research projects daily. This position may conduct Laboratory work in support of data acquisition missions which may require both indoor and outside working environments.
  • Innovative and committed to life-long learning, you are a creative self-starter with a commitment to research excellence.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification is a diploma, advanced diploma, or degree in a related field or discipline specific to the nature of the research such as natural resources, environmental science, biology, horticulture, agriculture, or related field.
  • You have a minimum of two years (full-time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in a research environment which includes laboratory work.
  • Proven experience working with industry partners to complete a project on time and on budget.
  • Experience in working with Tissue culture Lab and conducting Tissue Culture Plant work.
  • Experience with somatic embryogenesis would be considered an asset.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail, Adobe Acrobat, Project Management Tools and Data Analysis Tools.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.
  • Experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students would be considered an asset.

  • You have specific technical occupational knowledge and skill in tissue culture techniques.
  • You are known for your problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • You are a strong communicator.
  • You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to setting up, managing and conducting research projects.
  • You have proven record and information management skills and abilities related to research data collection, analysis and visualization.
  • You have strong project management skills related to research activities.
