Reporting to the Manager - Learning and Development, the Education Specialist provides effective and timely training expertise, solutions and services, linking the NSLC strategic and business plan goals with the organizational learning and development goals. Their primary focus is in the development of operations learning topics, administration of learning experiences and the championing of product education. They work closely with category and operations teams and stakeholders to provide training and development of employees' product knowledge that will enable frontline teams to provide exceptional customer experiences.

Please note that we will be selecting candidates for one permanent opportunity and one 9-month term opportunity.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

Essential Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively within the business to meet learning and development needs for operations through all aspects of the ISD model (Assessment, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation)
  • Identify learning objectives through assessment and propose and develop appropriate solutions that best address needs
  • Lead ongoing employee development strategy as a subject matter expert and facilitate identified product knowledge education sessions & events for RPS and retail employees
  • Collaborate with cross-functional and category teams on educational initiatives in support of category strategies
  • Ensure continuous improvement of training and development processes, methodologies and user materials by developing user manuals, FAQ's and communications
  • Build interactive and engaging online learning using e-learning authoring tools
  • Act as concierge of specialty services, unique customer requests, inquiries and/or concerns throughout the retail store network to ensure exceptional customer experience
  • Act as primary administrator and facilitator of WSET Approved Provider training
  • Act as an NSLC administrator for the Learning Management System (LMS)

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Administration of training systems, tracking and reporting of results
  • Lead learning programs delivery, including facilitation, scheduling and logistics
  • Support category management and category initiatives
  • Support customer experience events and other NSLC events as required
  • Stay abreast of industry advancements and trends in the retail industry
  • Demonstrate commitment to NSLC's Values and social responsibility mandate
  • Demonstrate commitment to workplace health and safety
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

What you'll need

Qualifications

As a qualified candidate, you will have:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field (e.g. bachelor of adult education, education, instructional design)
  • 3 to 5 years' experience in Learning and Development
  • Experience and/or extensive training in the use of Microsoft Office tools
  • Experience in the beverage alcohol and/or cannabis industry
  • A strong background in customer service in a retail environment

As an ideal candidate, you will also have:

  • Experience using eLearning authoring tools (design and integration with an LMS)
  • Experience working with SABA Learning Management System
  • Knowledge of beverage alcohol and cannabis products
  • Beverage Alcohol Qualification (e.g. WSET I/II, Cicerone, Beer Server)
  • Experience in a retail leadership capacity

An alternate combination of education and experience may be considered equivalent.
