What you'll do

Responsibilities

At McInnes Cooper, our students are given the opportunity to gain first hand exposure to the life of a practicing lawyer in a busy law firm. Students are assigned to a specific team of lawyers for each month of the summer and depending on their areas of interest, they will have exposure to business, litigation, and labour and employment law. Students will not only receive exposure to what goes on inside the doors of a law firm, they will also have the opportunity to attend court and client meetings.

Students will be trained and mentored by the members of our firm, and will work on building skills in the areas that are essential to eventually being a great lawyer. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate the potential to succeed in the various skill areas that lead to being a great lawyer. Specifically, we are looking for candidates with solid analytical skills, time management / organization skills, a client service orientation, and candidates who demonstrate leadership skills and initiative. Students are encouraged to demonstrate what they bring to the table in these areas. At McInnes Cooper we value diversity and inclusion, and seek out candidates who bring diversity of experience, perspectives and styles.

We welcome applications from all students who are looking for a well rounded, skill-building experience!

Pro Bono Legal Services

Through our Pro Bono Program, we provide legal counsel to disadvantaged people and organizations that have difficulty gaining access to justice on matters of public interest.
