What you will be doing…

As the Academic Chair for the Schools of Business and Creative Industries and Access, Education, and Language, you will lead the delivery of programs at the Campus while ensuring the highest standard of quality and consistency in programming while supporting student success. Your strategic and operational leadership is key to ensuring the program objectives are met through efficient and effective management of human resources and budgets, within a safe working environment. You will endorse the application of adult education principles and portfolio learning in a learning centered college.

You will be a key member of both Campus and School teams. Campuses and Schools share accountability for ensuring a quality-learning environment and a cohesive campus team. You will use your established relationships in related sectors, locally and regionally to inform programming and opportunities for students.

The Kingstec Campus of the Nova Scotia Community College is located in Kentville, Nova Scotia. The current portfolio includes approximately 26 direct staff reports and approximately 300 students (full-time & part-time). Current programming includes:

School of Business and Creative Industries (School of B&CI)

-Business Portfolio: Business Administration, Medical Office Administration, Office Administration

-Culinary and Tourism Portfolio: Baking and Pastry Arts, Culinary Management, Culinary Skills, Tourism Hospitality

School of Access, Education, and Language (School of AEL)

-Access Portfolio: Adult Learning Program, Adult Learning Program - Academic Upgrading, Academic and Career Connections

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is an undergraduate degree in a field related to the School of B&CI or the School of AEL. A Graduate Degree would be considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of 7 years of recent and progressive occupational experience in a field related to the School of B&CI or the School of AEL. You have a minimum of five years in a formal supervisory, management or leadership role. Experience in your field includes formal teaching at a post-secondary level.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite - including Teams, E-mail, Peoplesoft, and Brightspace - or similar learning management system.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.
  • You have experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery, and evaluation.
