What you will be doing…

Reporting to the Academic Chair, Technology and Environment, and under the direct supervision of the Natural Resources Environmental Technology program Faculty, you will provide laboratory/shop, program and administrative support for the Natural Resources Environmental Technology program. You will maintain the laboratory/shop/field-site by managing the lab/shop/field-site environment, media and/or equipment preparation, and maintenance of the inventory system for lab/shop/field-site supplies. Additionally, you will assist with lab/shop/field demonstrations; provide administrative preparation for the lab/shop/field-site, assist with technology needs, including computers; and work with students, Faculty and staff in a laboratory/shop/field-based setting. You will also assist in classroom and lab/shop/field demonstrations and prepare projects and mock-ups in advance of the need. You will assist Faculty with the safe operation of tools and equipment and safe work practices.

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a relevant post-secondary diploma or certification in forestry or a natural resource related discipline
  • In addition, you possess training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations as well as Standard First Aid, CPR and/or discipline relevant safety training. Wilderness First Aid and/or a Class 4 Driver's License would be considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of five years (full time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in supporting field-based activities or working in a related resource field
  • Occupational experience that includes chainsaw/clearing saw training, small engine mechanical training, leading groups, project management, and field trip planning would be considered an asset.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, and basic GIS applications.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.
  • Experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students would be considered an asset.
