Nova Scotia Community College

Reporting to the SEATAC Program Director, you will be responsible for enhancing and delivering SEATAC's mandate to offer research and development services to oceans-related companies in Nova Scotia. You will conduct industry outreach, develop projects, liaise with team members and other College staff to prepare proposals, act as the key customer contact for business-related communication, and guide the project management process to ensure that customer expectations are managed and met. You will communicate with the Industry Liaison Officer (ILO) in the Applied Research and Innovation department and Community Innovation Leads (CILs) in the Campus Planning & Community Engagement group to maintain awareness of industry activity.

You will work primarily in the metro area, with some travel required across the province, outside of the province, and potentially internationally. You will develop and nurture relationships with external partners in industry, government, and other appropriate community organizations to support the increase of external engagement within the college. It is expected that the negotiation and documentation of agreements, contracts, and deliverables are responsibilities of this position. You will ensure that any intellectual property ownership and rights of the College, faculty, staff, students, and partners are protected at all times.

This position will work primarily out of the Centre for Oceans Ventures and Entrepreneurship (COVE).

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

• The minimum educational qualification for this position is an undergraduate degree in a related field such as Business, Engineering or Science. An MBA, MPA, or similiar qualification would be considered an asset.
• You have a minimum of five (5) years of recent and related occupational experience in either technical sales or project management, preferably in an ocean-related field.
• You have experience in consultative solution-based sales and economic development.
• You have a strong knowledge and understanding of the local marine technology business ecosystem.
• Your experience includes developing and managing relationships with a range of stakeholder groups, including internal contacts, clients, industry stakeholders, and government.
• You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, Office 365, Outlook and MS Teams.
• You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.

Relevant Skills and Knowledge

• Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated skill in relationship management.
• The ability to develop strong business relationships with key stakeholders, including industry participants and government representatives at all levels.
• Demonstrated project development and project management skills, particularly in the Atlantic Canadian Ocean Technology sector. Experience in post-secondary applied research is considered an asset.
• In-depth knowledge of the industrial research and development environment locally and nationally and the partners in this area.
• Demonstrated skills in writing reports and proposals, including pricing
• Strategic thinker with strong hands-on leadership skills and the ability to inspire and influence others.
• Well respected and sought after by executive leadership, peers and direct reports.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated creativity in idea generation and solution implementation.
