For the 2021-22 Academic Year, based on public health guidelines, NSCC plans to return to more in-person learning, supports and services. You may be required to work on campus, remotely or a combination of both as the Academic Year progresses. This will be clarified further upon hire.

What you'll do


Reporting to the SEATAC Program Director, you will provide technical assistance for research and development (R&D) projects led by SEATAC Project Managers. This involves assisting with day-to-day operations of a project to meet the research objectives and commitments with collaborating partners and funding agencies. On a daily basis, the Research Associate (Data Communications) may be working on one or more research and development (R&D) projects. This position may conduct fieldwork in support of data acquisition missions which may require both indoor and outside working environments, potentially in harsh (winter) conditions. Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is an undergraduate degree in Engineering (Electronic, Computer, Data Communications or Networking) or equivalent Computer Science/Data Science degree. A Master's degree in data communications would be considered an asset.
  • A PEng certification or equivalent would be considered an asset.
  • You have a minimum of two years (full-time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in Electronics, Computer, Data Communications, or Networking Engineering fields.
  • You have one year of experience (full-time equivalent) in the following areas:
    • Design and/or research
    • Visual spectrum video and still image photography technology
    • Airborne LiDAR technology
    • Thermal imaging technology
    • Data fusion and sensor fusion methods, techniques, and technologies
  • You have experience in a marine environment and have familiarity with marine transportation/vessel operations.
  • Experience with Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) with a drone operator license would be considered an asset.
  • Occupational experience that includes data communications would be considered an asset.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite and E-mail. 
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.
  • Experience supporting students would be considered an asset.
