What you will be doing…

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, you will be responsible for all phases of carpentry work related to building maintenance and building renovations. You will perform various other maintenance related tasks as assigned and you may also be required to take on lead hand responsibilities during peak periods of construction. Shift work and on call work may be required.

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is Inter-Provincial Carpentry Certification. Training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations would be considered an asset as would Standard First Aid and CPR.
  • You have a minimum of two years of recent and related occupational experience in a facility, commercial or industrial setting combined with a minimum of two years supervisory experience.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, and Megamation.
  • You have demonstrated experience providing general maintenance duties with specific experience in building maintenance, drywall, construction/renovations and door maintenance.

  • You have specific technical occupational knowledge and skill using Scissor Lifts, Zoom Booms, and powered hand tools.
  • You possess a thorough knowledge of the national and local Building Codes in order to develop recommendations.
  • You are familiar working within and committed to complying with OHS policies and procedures.
  • You have a proven ability to follow instructions.
  • You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to construction renovation scheduling.
  • You are able to perform all physical duties of the job as required for the operation and maintenance of the facilities and operation of small hand tools and shop equipment
  • A valid NS driver's license is a bona fide relevant occupational requirement for this position.
