Responsibilities

As the campus Facilities Manager, you will be accountable for efficiently maintaining the buildings and grounds of the Akerley Campus to a standard of health, safety, cleanliness, appearance, physical security and energy efficiency generally associated with a public post-secondary educational institution. Akerley Campus offers a full schedule of day time programs and evening courses, with an emphasis on sustainability and valuing our customers and their needs. You will provide cost-effective and timely facility management and maintenance services that promote our commitment to the care and preservation of the regional Campus facilities, a safe working environment, and effective risk management in order to create and maintain a welcoming environment reflecting standards of excellence in support of NSCC programs. In this position, you will report to the Campus Principal with functional accountability to the Director of Facilities and Engineering.

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma in Facilities Management or Building Sciences such as:
    • Architectural or Engineering
    • Building Owners & Managers Association (BOMA) /Building Environment Systems (BES) / International Facility Management Association (IFMA)
    • Power Engineering-3rd Class
    • Journeyman Certified Trade: Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, etc.
  • Construction safety Supervisor certification or equivalent
  • Certificate in Project management would be considered an asset
  • A management credential in addition to the above stated educational requirements would be considered an asset
  • You have demonstrated your ability to develop a team and have a strong track record for professional development.
  • You have a minimum of 5 years of recent progressive occupational experience in roles related to facilities or maintenance. Your occupational experience includes 5 years of administrative experience supervising, managing or leading a team.
  • Occupational experience that includes project management, preventative maintenance systems, inventory control, energy and systems management and leadership in sustainability programs would be considered an asset.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Office 365 and inventory control and preventative maintenance software.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience
