What you'll do

Responsibilities

The Daycare Assistant will be working within our licensed early childhood learning center located on campus at the NSCC Cumberland Campus. The Daycare Assistant is responsible for monitoring the children while present at the Early Childhood Learning Center as well as planning and implementing programming for children in the toddler and preschool age groups. As a lab school, the Daycare Assistant will be responsible for working in conjunction with the Early Childhood Education diploma program students, to model, mentor and assist with daily routines. Responsibilities include planning, preparing and implementing programming for children, as well as interaction with parents and or caregivers to update progress and promotion of parental involvement. Record keeping, attendance, as well as health and safety protocols are all aspects of the role. An understanding of the requirements and standards upheld in licensed child care facilities is an asset.

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a college diploma or university degree in Early Childhood Education. You possess a minimum of Level 2 classification in ECE.
  • You have a minimum of one (1) year recent and related occupational experience in a childcare setting.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Outlook.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work
