What you will be doing…

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, Ivany Campus, the Assistant Facilities Manager is accountable to assist the Facilities Manager with the maintenance of the buildings and grounds of the campus to a standard of health, safety, cleanliness, appearance and security associated with a public post-secondary educational institution offering a full schedule of day time programs and evening courses, with an emphasis on valuing our customers and their needs.

The primary function of this position will be to oversee/supervise the custodial staff including directing daily activities, participating in areas of staffing, supervising and scheduling. This includes, but is not limited to, evaluating, counselling and initiating Employee Success Plans, maintaining standards of work performance and ensuring adequate levels of staffing are in place to maintain effective operations.

The position is responsible to provide cost-effective and timely Facility Management and Maintenance Services that promote commitment to the care and preservation of the Campus, a safe working environment, and effective risk management in order to create and maintain a welcoming environment reflecting standards of excellence in support of NSCC programs.

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is graduation from a recognized training program related to Building Services Technology such as:
  • Building Environmental Systems Certificate
  • BMA Accreditation
  • Certified Engineering Technologist
  • 3rd. Class Power Engineer
  • Certification Plumbing & Heating, Electrical or Building Related Trade
  • You have a minimum of 2 years of direct supervisory related experience leading a team.
  • You have a minimum of 3 years of recent and related occupational experience in a Facilities/Maintenance role.
  • Knowledge of existing safety laws, rules, methods and procedures including applicable Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) regulations to ensure the safety of staff, students, and building occupants.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail.
  • Experience working in a unionized work environment would be considered an asset
