Responsibilities

Reporting to a Research Scientist, you will:

  • You will provide technical assistance for projects led by the Research Scientists. This involves assisting with day-to-day operations of a project to meet the research objectives and commitments with collaborating partners and funding agencies.
  • On a daily basis, you may be working on one or more research projects. This position may conduct fieldwork in support of data acquisition missions which may require both indoor and outside working environments.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a diploma, advanced diploma, or degree specializing in geomatics.
  • You have a minimum of two years (full time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in a research environment which includes fieldwork.
  • You have practical experience with GIS software including Arc GIS Pro as well as programming in Python. You have experience with machine learning algorithms for processing raster and point cloud data.
  • You have experience with processing topographic lidar and topo-bathymetric lidar datasets
  • Experience managing projects and outside clients, conducting fieldwork and analysis in the office and report writing.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite (including Word and Excel) and e-mail.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.
  • You have strong communication skills for generating technical reports and peer reviewed publications.

  • Demonstrated analytical skills, problem solving techniques and the ability to look beyond symptoms to gather facts and information.
  • You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to geomatics projects.
  • You have proven records and information management skills and abilities specifically related to data and project management.
