STUDENT AFFAIRS AND SERVICES
The primary purpose of Student Affairs & Services (SAS) is to support students in achieving their academic, personal, and life goals. In keeping with this, SAS develops and delivers a wide range of programs and services that enhance and contribute to the student experience and the learning environment. Individually and collectively, SAS Divisions contribute directly to the University's goal of transformative educational experiences, innovative programs, and commitment to experiential learning.

Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri | 8:15 am - 4:30 pm | 36.25 hours per week

Additional Working Conditions:

  • Some evening and weekend work based on operational needs.

Salary Range: $68,373 - $95,723 per annum

YOUR FOCUS

Working in collaboration with the Associate Vice-Provost, Student Affairs and Services (AVP), whom they will report to, the Senior Advisor, Strategic Planning, Assessment and Operations will advise on strategy, proposal development, recommend solutions, implement project plans, foster external partnerships and respond to the objectives and priorities of the Portfolio and the Institution.

  • Collaborate with the Executive Assistant and Project Manager (EA/PM) to lead project management processes for the Portfolio.
  • Monitor special projects within the Portfolio, to ensure the objectives of SAS are carried out efficiently and effectively.
  • Identify and act on opportunities for strategic and value-added collaboration and partnerships on behalf of SAS with the shared goal of creating an inclusive and decolonized campus culture.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the Senior Directors and Directors and their units from an institution-wide and portfolio-wide perspective to make operational decisions, often under pressure.
  • Oversee and manage compliance with University policies and procedures for the SAS portfolio.
  • Provide strategic oversight to budget development including financial analysis, projections, reporting and financial planning for all departments within SAS.
  • Respond quickly to emerging situations and provide support and guidance to Senior Directors and program managers where required.
  • Supervise Directors responsible for SAS IT, SAS Finance/Operations/Administration, and the Student Union Building.
  • Develop a robust quality assurance and assessment program for SAS and provide oversight and support to the program review and assessment processes.
  • Work closely with Institutional Planning and Budgeting to ensure that data collection and analysis practices are designed to collect and analyse the types of data required to conduct useful quality control and assessment work in relation to the SAS portfolio.
  • Research, review and collect data to support evaluation and research, most especially the Strategic and Tactical Planning and Policy Development and the Quality Control and Assessment Functions.
  • Lead working groups, both within SAS and across the institution, tasked with researching recent developments and design and implement innovative new best practices to address such developments.
  • Represent Student Affairs and Services on committees, task forces, and working groups both internal and external to the University.
  • Contribute to the University's work on Strategic Enrollment Management and on Persistence, Attribution, and Retention.
  • Plan and implement policies and programs that reflect best practices in supporting student recruitment, engagement and success.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Masters degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 5 years experience with progressive responsibility in Post-Secondary Education, preferably in Student Services.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Proven experience overseeing departmental contracts and capital projects.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current best practices in student affairs.
  • Ability to work within a culturally and demographically diverse campus community.
  • Understanding of student affairs research and practice, and the ability to conduct relevant research and assessment.
  • Development and implementation of student/client-centric programming and services resulting in measurable and sustained student retention and satisfaction an asset.
