FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
Facilities Management services the Saint John campus through the planning, design, construction, operation, protection, and maintenance of its physical facilities. The department is also responsible for the safe, clean, and functional environment through the delivery of services including custodial services, grounds maintenance, waste removal and recycling, snow removal, environmental services, signage, furniture repair, pest control and mailroom services.

Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri | 8:00 am - 4:30 pm | 40 hours per week

Additional Working Conditions:

  • Some weekends/evenings are required.
  • WHMIS certificate must be completed once in position.
  • Workplace Standard First Aid training completion.

Salary Range: $24.60 - $30.96 per hour

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Building Operations Manager, the Electrician is responsible for ensuring the proper maintenance and efficient operation of properties within their assigned portfolio. The Electrician is responsible for the journeyman-level installation, maintenance, testing and repair of all electrical systems including wiring, equipment, and fixtures.

  • Respond to incoming Service Orders in a professional and timely manner.
  • Assess the work required. Complete work or coordinate with supervisor to ensure efficient completion of work.
  • Perform skilled work per accepted trade practices and relevant safety codes.
  • Install, map, maintain, test, and repair/replace all manner of electrical systems and associated components including wiring, equipment, appliances, and fixtures.
  • Install, test, maintain, and repair emergency power systems (generators/UPS), surveillance systems, fire alarm systems, access control systems, and the campus network as required.
  • Respond to emergency calls as required (evenings/weekends).
  • Support electrical store systems to ensure adequate supplies are available regularly.
  • Contribute to departmental Preventative Maintenance Program.
  • Perform maintenance on related tools and equipment.
  • Ensure timely and efficient completion of all necessary documentation.
  • Promote the functions of the Department of Facilities Management. Communicate effectively and professionally with university students, faculty, and staff.
  • Report maintenance problems and building component failures to the Building Operations Manager.
  • Perform the duties of other classifications within the department, on a as-needed basis.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Journeyman Electrician Trade Certificate/Red Seal Certified.
  • 5+ years of relevant electrical experience in a commercial setting.

Additional Strengths

  • BOMI Systems Maintenance Technician Certificate is considered an asset.
  • Ability to understand and perform some work on the campus Building Automation System is considered an asset.
  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Ability to anticipate and deal with problems and issues in a persistent manner.
  • Ability to focus efforts on achieving quality results, consistent with departmental vision.
  • Foresight and skill to anticipate and meet client needs.
  • Strong decision-making ability, self-directed, and proactive.
