STUDENT AFFAIRS & SERVICES
The primary purpose of Student Affairs and Services (SAS) is to strategically support students at the University of New Brunswick in persistence, retention, and progression toward a degree as they achieve their academic, personal, and life goals. In keeping with this, SAS develops and delivers a wide range of programs and services that enhance and contribute to the institutional mission, campus cultures, student experience, and the learning environment. Individually and collectively, the Divisions of Student Affairs & Services contribute directly to the University's strategic goals of an exceptional and transformative student experience and financial resiliency and responsibility.

Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri | 8:15 am - 4:30 pm | 36.25 hours per week
Salary Range: $64,527 - $83,888 per annum
YOUR FOCUS
Reporting to the Associate Vice-Provost of Student Affairs & Services, the Director, Finance & Operations provides financial expertise, leadership and strategic direction within the Finance & Operations division. This position also serves as a Student Affairs & Services Lead Team member. The Lead Team provides direction for Student Affairs & Services and supports collaboration among divisions to leverage synergies and enhance effectiveness. The Director is responsible for a divisional budget envelope, including managing the multi-million institutional food service contract. The Director is also responsible for managing several other contracts on the Fredericton and Saint John campuses.
- Lead in creating a strategic budget and financial planning for the entire SAS department.
- Provide department-wide financial expertise following university financial policy and procedures.
- Create reports, projections, and analyses for data-based decision-making.
- Ensure the appropriate stakeholders are informed of financial concerns and issues.
- Develop a Divisional operational plan for Finance and Operations that includes goals and objectives.
- Develop contingency funding and strategies for dealing with financial shortfalls and unforeseen expenditures.
- Provide human resource direction and oversight for the Finance and Operations Division.
- Provide divisional leadership by creating a vision for how Finance and Operations can contribute to the University's goals.
- Supervise staff in the SAS Finance and Operations division.
- Collaborate with the SAS Lead Team to develop and implement SAS-wide strategic plans.
- Manage residence capital renewal, a 20+ year project that will see the renewal of all residence spaces.
- Collaborate with the financial services treasury department to develop financial models that provide long-term debt and financial projections.
- Provide leadership for SUB renewal planning, design and lease negotiation phases of the project.
- Represent SAS as the point of contact for communication about ongoing projects.
- Lead negotiations of UNB contracts for dining services, bookstore, multi-campus exclusive beverage agreement, vending, residence communication services, and other contracts as required.
- Lead the process of reviewing and assessing proposals and negotiating contracts.
WHAT YOU BRING
- A University Degree in a Finance-related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years in a financial leadership position.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in strategic planning and capital projects.
- Experience in a supervisory position in a unionized/ non-unionized environment.
- Experience developing and implementing budget, financial and program plans.
- Experience in Financial Analysis, forecasting, and fund accounting in a large multi-departmental organization.
- A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Additional Strengths
- A professional accounting/financial management designation (CPA, CMA, etc.) is considered a strong asset.
- Previous experience working in the education, medical or other highly skilled professional environments is considered an asset.
- Experience in fundraising for capital improvements.
- Ability to lead and manage a team.
- Strong analytical, organizational and planning skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to function effectively as a member of a senior management team.
- Strong communication, team building and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, specifically Excel.
- Ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
