The President and Vice-Chancellor at Mount Saint Vincent University invites applications for the position of Special Advisor to Mount Saint Vincent University on Indigenous Affairs.

Classification: 2-year Term Contract (Renewable)
Starting Salary: $75,167 annually (0.6 FTE) 21 hours per week (minimum) to $125,278 annually (1.0 FTE) 35 hours per week (maximum). Other appointment terms would be prorated accordingly.

Responsibilities

Creating and maintaining a climate of student success for Indigenous learners and building meaningful relationships with the Indigenous/Mi'kmaq community are of great importance to Mount Saint Vincent University. The Special Advisor will provide leadership to the University in supporting faculty, staff and students in meeting our commitment to reconciliation and will play a vital role within our Mi'kmaq communities. The Special Advisor, as a member of the L'nu Advisory Circle, will coordinate internal and external activities to support Truth and Reconciliation; the Indigenization of curriculum; and will represent the Mount to Indigenous communities and constituents both regionally and nationally. They will provide support to Indigenous learners through the student life cycle, will assist with student recruitment, retention, and systems navigation and will provide community outreach to prospective, new and returning Indigenous students through management of our Indigenous Student Centre. The Special Advisor will provide strategic direction on Indigenous Affairs and develop initiatives and programs that respond to student, Indigenous community and institutional needs. They will provide transformative leadership around Truth and Reconciliation across the university and wider community.

What you'll need

Qualifications

You possess a relevant Master's degree in Social Science or Education combined with a minimum of five years' experience, working in an Indigenous educational or community development setting. Equivalencies will be considered. An empathetic and trusted leader with lived experience, and strong intercultural skills; you are an exceptional communicator with an innate ability to build consensus. You have significant experience in delivering strategic advice, or recommendations to senior leadership, including budget management. You have the ability to work with a diverse group of constituents, have established community contacts within Indigenous communities in Nova Scotia, the Provincial government, and you will be able to provide the community outreach necessary to be successful in this role. Depending on area of expertise, the successful candidate may also contribute to Indigenization/decolonization of courses and programs, as well as provide advice on pedagogy. Candidates should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite. Experience working with budgets.
