Responsibilities

As part of the College Safety team, the Lead Public Security Officer (LPSO) will provide leadership to ensure safe and secure working and learning environments. Reporting directly to the campus Facilities Manager, along with functional supervision from the Manager, OHS&E, you will take the lead to coordinate and follow appropriate security and public safety programs for Ivany Campus. With a focus of nurturing a welcoming and inclusive environment for a diverse student and employee population, you will implement proactive public safety and security measures to ensure these functions are coordinated and effective. You will respond to all medical and security emergencies as well as criminal behaviour on campus and take appropriate action. You are responsible for the daily coordination and scheduling of contract security personnel within Ivany Campus. You will participate in committees and remain current in skills and knowledge relevant to this position. You will be trusted with sensitive matters and must maintain the highest level of confidentiality and diplomacy. You will work closely with campus management teams, student services, law enforcement and other stakeholders to address daily Public Safety requirements for Ivany Campus.

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in Law and Security Administration, Public Safety, Policing or acceptable equivalent, or graduation from a recognized police academy. Medical First Responder (MFR) certification, or willingness to obtain within the first year, and proof of valid, clean criminal record check and the ability to pass requirements for special constable are requirements for this role. In addition, you are certified in defensive tactics as required.
  • You have valid CPR, First-Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training.

  • You have a minimum of five (5) years of recent and related occupational experience in security or policing, with a minimum two (2) years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Experience in a post-secondary educational environment is considered a strong asset.
  • Occupational experience that includes coordination and scheduling of contract staff is considered an asset.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite and e-maill. Knowledge of a SARA system is considered an asset.
  • Experience monitoring a CCTV system.
