NSCAD University, one Canada's most highly recognized cultural institutions, has ambitious plans for its future. Fundraising and friend-raising will help us bring into being the art, craft, media, and design university of the future. NSCAD's Advancement team is growing so we can approach this work. We are looking for an energetic, experienced and creative fundraiser to join the team.
The Development Officer (DO) is responsible for helping to raise funds to support NSCAD's mission, students, programs, initiatives and facilities with a specific focus on annual individual giving/direct response, tribute gifts and event sponsorships. Reporting to the Advancement Director, the Development Officer is accountable for implementing and reporting on initiatives to attract, retain, and engage donors to establish a robust, predictable annual base of financial support for NSCAD University from individuals and local corporations. The Development Officer primarily works with individual donations under $10,000 and sponsorships under $25,000. The Development Officer is a superior communicator and listener, deadline-oriented, discrete, attentive to details, able to manage multiple concurrent projects, consultative and collaborative, and above all, accountable for results and deliverables. The Development Officer is responsible for meeting ambitious financial and engagement targets and capable of assuming the pressure associated with this level of responsibility.
What you'll do
Responsibilities
- Working from the Annual Advancement Plan, to which the Development Officer will be a contributor, the Development Officer will create a Direct Response content schedule for each quarter.
- The Development Officer will execute direct response solicitations using email, letter mail and phone throughout the year, making adjustments based on results in real time. The Officer liaises with the direct response consultant and other service providers associated with the delivery of the program.
- The Development Officer will develop and launch a new program for mid-level giving in consultation with the Advancement Director.
- Respond to requests from donors/families who wish to make tribute gifts.
- Responsible for soliciting sponsors to support events and initiatives at NSCAD and works collaboratively to establish giving levels, recognition, and promotional packages.
- Tracks program activities to budget.
- Tracks and reports results.
- Ensures donors and sponsors are appropriately thanked and recognized in a timely fashion, and that gifts are activated.
- Works with the Advancement Services Officer as needed to recognize donors who support named awards.
What you'll need
Qualifications
Minimum Undergraduate degree and five years of experience in fundraising, cause marketing or an advertising direct/response agency (or an equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. Superior written and spoken communication skills are required. Demonstrated project management skills are required. Previous experience running direct response programs required (fundraising preferred but other results-based marketing would be considered). Experience securing sponsorships or B2B partnerships is required. Proficiency in MS Office platform including Teams is required. Experience in university fundraising/Advancement, cultural organization or cause marketing is preferred. Experience working with Raiser's Edge or other fundraising or CRM software is preferred.
