Emergency Medical Care Inc. (EMC) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Medavie Health Services that manages and operates ground ambulance, air medical transport and medical communications operations in Nova Scotia through a performance-based contract with the provincial government's Emergency Health Services (EHS) division and the Department of Health and Wellness. EMC also operates TeleHealth 811 Mental Health and Addictions for Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for the Department of Health. 

EMC delivers a high-quality pre-hospital care program and Telehealth service to Nova Scotians every day. We achieve this through more than 1,400 employees, including highly-trained paramedics, nurses, medical communication officers, and support staff.

What you'll do

Responsibilities

This is a recently restructured role, reporting to the Director, Human Resources. As the Manager, HR Business Partnership, your goal is to provide leadership and execution on all day-to-day human resource functions in your new portfolio (employee and labour relations, performance management, rewards, and recognition), as well as other related HR programs and best practices. You will be responsible for coaching, mentoring, and developing the HR Business Partnership team through innovative and thoughtful leadership.

As a leader, you excel at developing and maintaining positive working relationships. You negotiate skillfully, make sound decisions, problem solve, and collaborate closely with your colleagues and clients to deliver on key HR initiatives important to the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate proactively with internal clients to plan for future HR needs aligned with the business strategy
  • Partner with the HR Leadership team to monitor and analyze key labour, industry trends and HR data, formulate appropriate recommendations and insights that align with the needs of the business
  • Work collaboratively with the Medavie/EMC leadership team on key HR processes, programs, and policies
  • Support and develop a strong, client-focused team of human resource professionals through effective coaching, team building and performance development
  • Accountable for oversight of labour relations and contract administration responsibilities including contract negotiations and arbitration
  • Recommend, implement, and support employee relations practices and initiatives necessary to establish a positive employer-employee relationship
  • Consult on creation of 'best practices' processes and procedures to support the business strategy

What you'll need

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, labour with CPHR preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive human resource experience (experience in health care preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience leading a team required
  • Experience working in a unionized workplace required
  • Experience with Workday human capital management system is considered an asset
  • PMP Certification and/or related program management experience an asset
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated ability to present to a diverse group in a compelling and influential manner
  • Strategic leader that also can deliver on tactical and operational issues
