• Understands and interprets psycho-educational, medical, and other professional documentation.
• Works with each student to develop a programme which will allow individual learning needs to be met.
• Develops accommodation recommendations and facilitates accommodation plans in collaboration with faculty.
• Acts as liaison with various campus offices in providing services to students with disabilities.
• Works with students to access government financial support.
• Trains students in the use of adaptive technology and provides ongoing support.
• Develops and maintains appropriate policies and procedures that are consistent with best practices in the area of Accessibility.
• Assists with retention efforts, orientation programs and academic advising for students.
• Recommends tutoring, writing lab, counselling, and other services as needed.
• Supervises the Student Accessibility Advisor and Office Assistant positions, including hiring, training, and performance management.
• Manages a student team of note takers, readers, and invigilators, including selection, orientation, and training.
• Performs other related duties as required.

• A minimum of a Master's degree with a focus on learning disabilities, special education, adult education counselling or a related field, supplemented by 4-6 years relevant experience, or recognized equivalencies.
• Skilled in using adaptive technology and up-to-date on best practices related to this technology.
• Excellent crisis management and intervention skills.
• Experience working in an environment requiring a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
• Understanding of secondary and post-secondary school programs, curriculums, and academic programs.
• Experience working with Equity, Diversity and Inclusion intersectionality identities such as Indigenous, BIPOC, LGBTQ2IAS+ and non-traditional student populations.
• Proven skills in communication, problem solving, judgement and organization to deal with a diverse set of demands.
• Experience addressing contentious or sensitive issues or explaining complex information to others, and the ability to use well-developed skills of tact, discretion, and persuasiveness to gain cooperation or agreement.
• Proven skills of mediation and negotiation to deal with controversial and/or sensitive issues.
• Proficiency in using a variety of computer programs including but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Kurzweil, and Dragon Naturally Speaking.

Established in 1910, St. Thomas University is a primarily undergraduate, liberal arts institution with a full-time enrolment of 1600 that offers a Bachelor of Arts, Applied Arts, Education, and Social Work and a Master of Social Work. St. Thomas University originated in 1910, when Basilian Fathers assumed responsibility for St. Thomas College in Chatham, New Brunswick. The college began granting degrees in 1934, was renamed St. Thomas University in 1960, and relocated to Fredericton in 1964. St. Thomas now has 100 full-time faculty, and 12 buildings, several of which have earned architectural design awards and make the campus one of the most renowned in Canada.
