Position: Educational Developer, Learning Experience (2 Year Contract)

Department: Studio for Teaching & Learning​​​​​​​

Salary: $60,000 + 4% in lieu of vacation​​​​​​​

Under the supervision of the Director, Educational Development and Technology, the Educational Developer, Learning Experience is responsible for project management and oversight in the development of distributed courses and programs. The Educational Developer works closely with faculty members and staff in the production of these courses and actively guides, contributes to, and participates in the design of effective instructional materials that are informative, accurate, and consistent with sound instructional design, various learning pedagogies, and educational technology integration principles.

Responsibilities

Duties as the Educational Developer include, but are not limited to:

  • Consulting with faculty to coordinate a course delivery project; designing curriculum activities; developing and integrating learning activities; and testing and delivering activities by applying appropriate pedagogies for distributed learning, interactive lectures, or blended learning teaching approaches.
  • Researching and advising on distributed, accessible, open education pedagogies to improve and support differentiated learning environments.
  • Coordinating, planning, developing, and delivering distributed learning using various educational technologies, the learning management system, synchronous technologies, virtual classrooms, and mobile communications.
  • Organizing instructional support and training for faculty when preparing and revising distributed courses between terms and in urgent situations where a distributed course must be prepared and deployed quickly.
  • Evaluating distributed course materials before the term starts and report any issues or concerns to Director.
  • Coordinating copyright licenses and approvals for distributed learning materials.
  • Meeting on a regular basis with each faculty member and project team members in order to review work progress to date and provide guidance, adaptations, support, and resources.
  • Recommending and advising on distributed, open education, and accessible course delivery models for academic programs.
  • Planning, sourcing, selecting educational technology solutions for faculty who are integrating blended, distance, video, and/or virtual elements in their course or lesson design in order to provide differentiated learning options to students.
  • Organizing and adapting course materials to provide flow of effective use of communication, assessments, and course management tools based on differentiated learning model and its principles.
  • Evaluating course materials for consistency, organization, and quality standards in format, mechanics of writing, accessibility, and copyright and revising when necessary
  • Communicating frequently and effectively with faculty, staff, and project team members to ensure that project goals, timelines, and milestones are being met.
  • Coordinating faculty, project team, external vendors, and others to produce and complete project deliverables
  • Ensuring best practices and standards of excellence in distributed education are incorporated into existing courses and programs when requested.
  • Meeting with faculty members on a regular schedule to review work, progress to date, provide support and resources. Referring faculty to project team members or support centres when necessary.
  • Advises faculty on a variety of technology platforms, assistive technologies, and specific software programs used to increase student interactivity, address different learning needs, and building learning community.
  • Conducting faculty training sessions addressing pedagogies used for differentiated learning, course design, instructional activities, and assessment and evaluation in distributed learning environments.
  • Providing monthly reports to Director about project updates, issues, requests, and work progress.
  • Advising Director about new research and emerging best practices about development and delivery of distributed learning.

What you'll need

Qualifications

To be the successful applicant you will possess a Master's Degree in Education with Education Technology or Distributed Learning specialization and a minimum of two (2) years of recent and related experience. Experience and training in instructional design and project management; strong written and oral communication skills; strong customer service skills; and the ability to lead a team through a creative process will ensure you success in this position. You will also have the ability to work in fast-paced, team oriented environment and have knowledge of instructional design principles, learning theories and pedagogies, and best practices in distributive teaching. Experience with University learning management system, synchronous technologies, virtual classrooms, and mobile communications will be considered assets.
