Position: Instructional Technology Technician: Training Lead (Contract)

Hourly Rate: $24.50 per hour (inclusive of vacation pay)

Under the direction of the Manager, Software and Application Support Centre (SAS), the Instructional Teaching Technician: Training Lead (ITT/TL) is multi-faceted requiring a high level of technical knowledge, analytical skills, a customer service mindset, and interpersonal communication. The SAS is a key University resource for all faculty and students, in-class, online, and at-a-distance, as well as serving other University constituents and projects. The position works within the department of Academic Learning Services, and the Studio for Teaching and Learning.

The Instructional Teaching Technician: Training Lead is responsible for accessing training needs and delivering required training on all software supported by the SAS required by all faculty, students, and staff at Saint Mary's. While this is the focus of the position, the ITT/TL will also provide general client customer service and project support, as required. The position involves close collaboration with staff in Information Technology Support Services (ITSS) and Educational Development and Technology.

Responsibilities

Duties as the Instructional Technology Technician: Training Lead include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing software training and support for all faculty, students, and staff.
  • Providing excellent client services for internal clients of the University, including faculty, staff and, students, in the form of customized training, both in the SAS centre and in and around the University, on a one-on-one or group basis.
  • Conducting training-needs assessments.
  • Working to assure that faculty members, staff, and students are taught to use the tools available by co-developing and co-facilitating workshops as needs arise, for a variety of instructional technologies.
  • In supporting ITSS, ensuring the efficient operation of the University's various software platforms including Microsoft 365, Brightspace, and others.
  • As a SAS team member, providing training, support, and mentorship to other SAS staff as required.
  • Providing manuals and FAQ regarding supported software, with support from ITSS.
  • Collaborating with ITSS staff, especially ITSS Help Desk, regarding software operations and updates.
  • Collaborating with other Academic Learning Services and Studio for Teaching and Learning staff, as required.
  • Staying current with software updates, and software training trends, and updating manuals and other materials, as required.

What you'll need

Qualifications

To be a successful Instructional Teaching Technician: Training Lead you will possess an undergraduate degree or a 3-year college degree in a related to technology and systems supports in higher education, including related certifications in software and electronic teaching and learning applications. You will have at least 3 years' experience in post-secondary software and application support and training. You demonstrate excellent customer service, with the goal of solving issues during the initial contact and experience in proactive and responsive client support, while maintaining clear communications in situations that extend beyond an initial contact resolution. You demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills along with excellent presentation and facilitation skills which will further ensure your success in this position. Strong interpersonal skills combined with your commitment to continuous professional development will round out your qualifications. Demonstrated expert knowledge of MS Office, Internet, and e-mail applications are required.
