Position: Manager, Annual Giving (APC)

Department: Development

Annual Salary: $61,346 - $79,051 (Group 6)

Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy, the Manager, Annual Giving manages, plans, and implements annual giving programs which may include, but are not limited to direct mail, electronic and social channels, student calling, leadership giving, personal solicitations, reunion giving, Faculty/Staff and Retirees appeals, parent appeals, matching gift programs, and special events related to the program. The position may be required to run special campaigns as they arise, or work with particular areas (i.e. Athletics & Recreation) to assist with their annual revenues. The Manager is responsible for a portfolio of Annual Giving leadership prospects and donors at the $1,000 to $10,000 level.

Responsibilities

Duties as the Manager, Annual Giving include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervising annual giving staff, student callers, casual personnel, and office volunteers, which includes assigning tasks and/or delegating responsibility; managing shift schedules; interviewing and hiring new employees; and monitoring performance and providing day to day and periodic performance feedback.
  • Developing strategies to for optimal participation rates, increased gift sizes, and facilitating continuous lifetime giving.
  • Overseeing the development, implementation and management of a campus-wide annual giving plan that includes strategies and initiatives that utilize direct mail, electronic and social channels, student calling, face-to-face solicitation, giving clubs, crowdfunding, and special events to achieve the goals as set out in the annual plan.
  • Developing market segmentation and developing a comprehensive schedule of solicitations for each calendar year that includes existing programs, as well as new and innovative programs.
  • Managing a portfolio of leadership gift prospects at the $1,000 to $10,000 level and determining appropriateness of making a gift solicitation, and level of gift to ask for and carrying out personal solicitation of the prospects.
  • Working closely as part of the Development team to ensure integration of Annual Giving donor and volunteer recognition programs including class and society giving, as well as strategies to upgrade donor gift levels.
  • Identifying and managing leadership, support and volunteer requirements.
  • Working with volunteers and staff to build prospect pools, secure contributions and steward donors.
  • Identifying potential major gift donors and planned giving prospects.
  • Ensuring the goals of annual giving are met and desired results achieved in accordance with the Annual Giving plan.
  • Developing, implementing and updating annual giving policies to ensure accuracy, security and integrity of data.
  • Working closely with all units within Advancement to develop a variety of long term, sustainable fund development strategies, initiatives and reporting mechanisms to evaluate progress.
  • Ensuring Annual Giving staff and representatives maintain programs in accordance with all applicable tax laws and operational/financial policies of the University.
  • Collaborating with the Development team in setting policies to provide stewardship to Annual Giving donors.
  • Representing Annual Giving at Development meetings for prospect management.
  • Liaising with Alumni staff in developing Annual Giving programs that will cultivate potential alumni donors.
  • Liaising with Financial Services and other departments to ensure accurate information is conveyed and protected.
  • Working closely with the Director, Advancement Services to coordinate software training, procedures, and systems to ensure records are accurate and up-to-date and to improve efficiency of fundraising programs.
  • In collaboration with the Director, Advancement Services, designing and implementing campaign performance tracking and analysis systems to capture statistical information.
  • Managing and overseeing the automated campus calling system.
  • Researching and analyzing fundraising trends and strategies to improve effectiveness of the Annual Giving program.
  • Maintaining a high degree of confidentiality in all aspects of Development and University activities.
  • Working with External Affairs to plan and produce solicitation materials for each Annual Giving program, including brochures, letterhead, pledge forms and return envelopes.
  • Monitoring and coordinating the update of Annual Giving/Development website content.
  • Preparing and managing budgets along with monitoring revenues and expenses.
  • Documenting and reporting results and analysis of initiatives.
  • Working with the Director, Advancement Services to support the accurate and timely processing of all University donations, receipts and thank you letters.
  • Representing Saint Mary's University on appropriate professional associations.
  • Attending University special events and assists as required.

What you'll need

Qualifications

To be the successful Manager, Annual Giving you will possess a University Degree combined with a minimum five (5) years of related experience with demonstrated supervisory experience. You demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail; excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills; and strong research and data analysis skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and enterprise level information systems and the ability to travel and work evenings and weekends, as required will round out your success in this position. Supervisory experience in a unionized environment and Banner experience with be considered assets.
